The Worcestershire village of Pedmore has now become a suburb of Stourbridge, but back in the middle of the 19th century it was a village, set in beautiful countryside, which staged its own races. Under the Stewardship of Charles Noel a meeting took place in fields on the edge of Pedmore on Wednesday 10th March 1847 when a 2 race programme was held. The principal race was a 5 Sovereign Sweepstake which attracted a field of 8 runners and was won by Mr Trow’s Wallace. After racing there was a Dinner served at the Talbot Inn. Although Pedmore Common was used for Stourbridge Races both before and after this meeting, this is the only meeting to be entitled Pedmore Races.
